On July 8, 1822, the lifeless body of the infamous young poet Percy Bysshe Shelley washed up on the shore in Viareggio, Italy, ravaged by salt water. Driven from Great Britain for his immoral writings, free love lifestyle and running off with a teenaged Mary Godwin (they later married and she authored the novel Frankensteinat age 18), the young Shelley began writing and didn’t stop until his fingers grew numb. This pictureless film uses text, music and sophisticated sound design projected via 27 speakers to conjure powerful images in the listener’s mind. INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE
For the premiere only, one of the two composers, Augustin Viard, will accompany the film’s soundtrack live on his remarkable Ondes Martenot, the world’s first electronic instrument, invented in 1930. Afterwards, the director, musician and sound engineer will be on hand for a Q&A session.
