Experimentation. Transcendence. Rapture.
PORTUGAL | 88 minutes | 2018
The play of light and shadow during one night reveals or conceals the story we long to follow. Paulo works by night as a security guard on a building site. When his shift is over, he often spends the night at his lover’s Luisa. He observes their unstable neighbour Felipe warily. He also deals with the death of his daughter in a tragic accident. Through a series of sequences Mariphasa explores the limits of narration, yet the lingering allusions it makes are incredibly precise. Previously awarded at the FNC, Sandro Aguilar returns with his second feature. NORTH AMERICAN PREMIEREQ&A with the filmmaker on October 5th
