Gutsy cinema that breaks new ground
PARAGUAY , Germany , Brazil , Uruguay | 95 minutes | 2018
Chela and Chiquita, both from wealthy families, have been together for over 30 years. When they fall on financial hard times, their relationship suffers and they start selling off their possessions. In the upshot, Chiquita is imprisoned for fraud. Now solo, the shy and retiring Chela meets the much younger and far more open-minded Angy. This début film took the podium in Berlin, then everywhere else it screened — and with good reason. Insightful, subtle and exquisitely realized, it convincingly brings to the screen a touching personal transformation in a context marked by glaring inequality.
