Engaging with the world
INDIA , France | 99 minutes | 2018
In Mumbai, Ratna is a maid in the household of Ashwin, heir to a family fortune. Despite his perfect-seeming life, he is increasingly lost, while she, who has nothing, is proudly guided by her hopes and dreams. Living under the same roof brings these two people from diametrically opposed worlds closer together. Indian director Rohena Gera’s first feature is a well-handled, sensitive and subtle observation of class relations in a world full of constraints and contradictions. A heartwarming story of love and emancipation.
