Between nostalgia-drenched dreams and altered reality, this second work from 27-year-old Bi Gan explores a strange world of colours and textures reminiscent of early Wong Kar-Wai. An amazing nocturnal plunge into the recesses of the mind, it created a sensation at this year’s Cannes with its virtuosic extended take that constitutes the film’s entire second half. Together with An Elephant Sitting Still (which also screens at the FNC), A Long Day's Journey into Night is ample proof that strikingly individualistic Chinese auteur cinema is alive and well.
Schedule change: the screening initially scheduled on October 12th in Quartier Latin 10 at 9pm will actually be taking place in Quartier Latin 17 at 9:30pm.
