Spotlight on homegrown cinema

The “firecrackers” in the title are Lou and Chantal, two teens who have way too much to say for their sleepy, isolated town. Bold, volatile, their young lives suspended halfway between debauchery and boredom, they dream of only one thing: leaving. Ontario director Jasmin Mozaffari’s first feature nods elegantly to Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank) to deliver a sensitive, highly strung tale that bristles with the energy of its charismatic leads. The ultra-tight camera work leaves no room for complacency, the better to veer off into flights of fancy. A wonderful discovery.Q&A with the directorPresented by Vice
