Montreal, Monday, August 10th 2015 – The 44e edition of Montreal’s Festival du nouveau cinéma will take place from October 7th to 18th, 2015. Today, we are very excited to uncover our opening film, an original and zany tale discovered in the last Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes: The Brand New Testament. A North American premiere, the fourth feature of Jaco Van Dormael brings together the best of Belgian and French cinemas: Benoît Poelvoorde, Yolande Moreau, Pili Groyne, Catherine Deneuve and François Damiens.
"God exists. He lives in Brussels. He is horrible to his wife and daughter. We’ve heard a lot about his son but precious little about his daughter. I’m his daughter. My name is Ea and I’m ten. To get even, I’ve sent everyone in the world an SMS with their date of death...."
A breeze blows on comedy! No, God is not who you think he is; he is stupid, cruel and skinny. Isn’t it why they say he created man in his own image? Jaco Van Dormael directed his first feature in 1991, Toto the Hero which received the Camera d'Or in Cannes Film Festival. Four years later, his The Eighth Day brought to its both actors Daniel Auteuil and Pascal Duquenne, the Best Actor Award in Cannes; followed by Mr. Nobody, starring Jared Leto, Sarah Polley, and Diane Kruger that was selected for the Venice Film Festival and won the Best Technical Contribution and Best Biopic awards.
"Jaco Van Dormael's crazy film... / ... makes you laugh out loud" - Allociné
