The “firecrackers” in the title are Lou and Chantal, two teens who have way too much to say for their sleepy, isolated town. Bold, volatile, their young lives suspended halfway between debauchery and boredom, they dream of only one thing: leaving. Ontario director Jasmin Mozaffari’s first feature nods elegantly to Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank) to deliver a sensitive, highly strung tale that bristles with the energy of its charismatic leads.
